Smashing time with a 1788!!

My attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Records for the oldest and most expensive cocktail has been thwarted by a tragic accident. I was planning to mix 'The Old and Wise' with the key ingredient being a shot of my 1788 Clos de Griffier Vieux when a few days ago a regular client and fellow connoisseur of vintage cognac stopped by my bar with a close friend with whom he wished to share a vintage experience. They chose the Griffier, at £5000 a shot and asked to take a closer look at the bottle and it was left on the table for them to admire..... Just think of the events that took place when this vintage was produced, Captain Cook discovered Australia the following year the French Revolution began and George Washington was in preparation to become the first President of the USA.... having enjoyed and agreed that the vintage was truly exquisite it was then that tragedy struck, as they stood up to leave they must have nudged the table, being such an ancient bottle the base was uneven and it was enough to unbalance the bottle and send it crashing to the floor. We all froze as the precious liquid spread across the floor....at that moment my floor became the most expensive bar floor in the world!!

I have salvaged the the neck and the base and the label as a reminder, they are now on display with the rest of my vintage collection. I have not given up on the world record and will continue to search around the world for another rare specimen to enable the attempt. If I manage to achieve my ambition I will call the cocktail 'Salvatore's Legacy'
