Following on from last years very first Maestro Challenge, I was proud and delighted to host the 2nd Edition, again, in my home town of Maiori on Italy’s beautiful Amalfi Coast.
I had the hard task to choose 12 finalists from the recipes of more than a hundred entries from all over Italy.
With the support of Campari, this year we were able to extend the competition to include a daytime challenge which I called ‘Mare e Terra’ ( Sea and Land ).
The finalists first had to create a cocktail on the beach selecting their ingredients from local produce and products, then
Inspired by my encounter with the great Michael Schumacher back in 2009 when I was challenged to make a cocktail whilst a passenger with him at the wheel I challenged them to make a ‘Shakerato Wild’ whilst riding the sea in a speed boat. You can watch the action HERE
The Grand Finale was held in the Port of Maiori on an open air stage with an audience of several hundred.
The finalists presented the recipes that had brought them to the competition to myself and my friends Peter Dorelli, Leonardo Leuchi and Flavio Angiolillo.
We chose four of the bartenders to then create a cocktail that would pair well with a desert cake made by celebrated Italian pastry chef, Sal De Riso.
The worthy winner was talented bartender Salvatore Scamardella of “Club Deco’ Milano
