Espresso Martini

Dick Bradsell’s modern classic dates from the early 1990s and has found its way on to cocktail menus all over the world. He originally made the drink for a customer who asked for something that would “wake her up, and f*** her up”. I think I can claim an influence here –I remember serving a similar drink which actually predates the Espresso Martini, made with a white rum base, a shot of espresso and Frangelico, soon after my arrival in England when I was working at Dukes Hotel. I’m pretty sure I even served Dick a few of these. Of course, Dick had the good sense to use the most fashionable spirit of the day, vodka, and the rest is history. A fine contribution to the evolution of this classic drink.

  • 40ml vodka
  • 20ml Kahlua
  • 30ml espresso coffee
  • 10ml simple syrup

Place all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with three coffee beans on top of the drink.
